Brainstorming About Possible Things that I Might Want To Write About

As I drove down the street today I realized something. There are a lot of really bad drivers. There are also quite a number of stoplights that I have to drive through to get anywhere. It often seems like I hit every red light there is. I had the idea to change the way the stoplights are synchronized on the main roads near campus (and through-out the rest of the city.) So that when you are on a main road you can just keep going and only hit one red-light total. (If that.)

The idea would be that when the light turns green, using the average acceleration and speed limit on the road to calculate how long an average car needs to get to the next light, the next light then turns green so that the car wouldn't need to slow down. It would be kind of like opening a floodgate and allowing it to go in sections that wouldn't need to be slowed down. It would allow faster and safer vehicular movement.

  1. So, I don't know if you know, but this is how most stop lights/intersections are run. And yes, I think that improvements need to be made to the provo/orem driving experience.

  2. Whoa. This is EXACTLY what I wrote about, I thought I was reading my own blog, and then I was really confused. Like, I have my oped all written out and now I'm reading this, I'm not going to lie, I'm a little freaked out that you might be a mind reader.

  4. Oh man! i think you could make some serious money if you actually got this to go somewhere! that would be probably the greatest thing in the world!

  5. I think the issue is actually Utah Valley as a whole. I seem to have offended the deity of the stoplights, because I hit almost every stoplight every time I ever go ANYWHERE in Utah Valley. So I've thought about this a lot too...Usually while I'm parked at yet another stoplight.

  6. I have thought about that so many times. I don't know why they don't do that. And I also agree that there are a TON of really bad drivers in Provo.

Where did you get that Lego picture, did you make it?

  7. Yes...I can see how this would tremendously help as far as driving goes. But then we'd all be frustrated as pedestrians that could never get the light to let us recognize that we're there and want to cross the street too!

  8. What I think would be the ultimate fix to the red light problem is for someone to invent flying cars. Like in The Jetsons or Star Wars. It's time to spread our wings and fly.

  9. This blog is really popular. Despite my jealousy, I agree that the traffic in Provo is quite an anomaly. Good job :)
